Student Life At Sea Of Strengths Academy

Where Confidence, Community & Fun Come Together

At Sea of Strengths Academy, student life is about more than academics.

We believe students learn best when they feel connected, confident, and celebrated.

Because our school community is intentionally small, every student is known — and every student participates.

From Spirit Week competitions to field trips across Sarasota, student life at SOSA is energetic, inclusive, and full of school pride.

Spirit Week, Green vs. Blue

One of our most anticipated traditions is Spirit Week.

Our school is divided into two teams:

  • Team Green

  • Team Blue

Throughout the week, students earn points for their team through participation, positive behavior, and themed dress-up days such as:

  • Tacky Tourist Day

  • 80s Day

  • Superhero Day

  • Anything But a Backpack Day

  • And other creative themes

Spirit Week builds leadership, teamwork, and school spirit — all while having a lot of fun.

Field Day: Friendly Competition & Team Pride

Field Day is a highlight of the year.

Students wear their team colors — green or blue — and compete in a variety of activities including:

  • Tug of War

  • Egg Toss

  • Relay Races

  • Super Soaker Tag

  • Team Challenges

The energy is high, the competition is friendly, and the memories last all year.

Field Trips Around Sarasota

Learning extends beyond the classroom.

Students at Sea of Strengths Academy take field trips to local cultural and educational destinations such as:

  • Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium

  • Marie Selby Botanical Gardens

  • Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall

We also welcome guest presenters to campus for events like:

  • Reptile presentations

  • Career Day

  • Special enrichment programs

These experiences broaden perspectives and bring learning to life.

Special Themed Days

Throughout the year, we host special themed events that bring creativity and joy into the school day:

  • Water Day

  • Mad Scientist Day

  • Holiday celebrations

  • End-of-year celebrations

These experiences help students connect, build friendships, and celebrate accomplishments together.

Track Bucks: Encouraging Positive Leadership

At SOSA, we believe in recognizing positive behavior and character development.

Students earn Track Bucks, our school reward currency, for:

  • Helping others

  • Acts of kindness

  • Completing class jobs

  • Demonstrating leadership

  • Positive effort and participation

Students can redeem Track Bucks at our Prize Box or save them for our Quarterly Auctions, where bigger items and experiences are available.

This system reinforces responsibility, integrity, and community values in a fun and meaningful way.

Fridays at SOSA

Fridays bring extra excitement to campus:

  • Dress Down Day – Students may dress down for a $5 fundraiser donation

  • Pizza Day – Students can participate in our $6 pizza fundraiser

These traditions add fun while supporting school initiatives and community building.

Celebrations & Community Traditions

We celebrate together throughout the year with:

  • Holiday parties

  • Classroom celebrations

  • Yearbook signing

  • End-of-year festivities

Each year, students receive a school yearbook capturing the memories, growth, and milestones that make SOSA special.

A School Where Students Feel They Belong

At Sea of Strengths Academy, student life is designed to build:

  • Confidence

  • Friendship

  • Leadership

  • School pride

  • Joy in learning

For many of our students, this is the first school experience where they feel fully known, understood, and celebrated.

A Note About Culture At SOSA

When we first began planning Sea of Strengths Academy, we focused on the obvious things — curriculum, schedules, instructional models, assessments.

But what we came to realize is that one of the most powerful forces in a school isn’t something you can list on a spreadsheet.

It’s culture.

You can feel it the moment you walk into our building.

Students who once sat defeated in other classrooms — hoping not to be called on to read aloud — are now actively participating, smiling, and raising their hands.

That transformation doesn’t happen by accident.

It happens when students feel safe.
When they feel understood.
When they know they belong.

Many of our students come to us after struggling in traditional school settings. There is a shared experience here — and that creates empathy. Our students encourage one another. They celebrate growth. They understand what it means to work hard for progress.

At SOSA, we push. We stretch. We aim for the next step, the next jump, the next breakthrough.

But we do it in a joyful and hopeful way.

Every single day.
