The Reading Station is an after school program providing one on one instruction to struggling readers by trained staff using a proven multisensory curriculum.

Since 2006, The Reading Station has served hundreds of families in the Sarasota-Manatee area. We are very proud of the work that we have done, and continue to help students become strong and confident readers.

How We Are Different

Instead of working on homework assignments, students build skills that foster independence. Students with strong reading skills can complete assignments independently and feel confident in their skills.
One-on-one instruction allows the tutor to focus on the student and move at his / her pace.
No long-term contracts or sign-up fees

What Is Dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a language-based learning disability. Dyslexia refers to a cluster of symptoms, which result in people having difficulties with specific language skills, particularly reading. Students with dyslexia usually experience difficulties with other language skills such as spelling, writing, and pronouncing words. 

Dyslexia Screener

The Colorado Learning Disabilities Questionnaire – Reading Subscale (CLDQ-R) is a screening tool designed to measure risk of reading disability (i.e. dyslexia) in school-age children (Willcutt, Boada, Riddle, Chhabildas, DeFries & Pennington, 2011). Normative scores for this questionnaire were developed based on parent-reports of their 6-18 year old children, as well as actual reading testing of these children. Willcutt, et al. (2011) found that the CLDQ-R is reliable and valid. It is important to note that the CLDQ-R is only a screener and does not constitute a formal evaluation or diagnosis. If you have concerns about your child’s reading progress, we recommend that you contact your child’s school, a licensed child psychologist, or your child’s primary care physician about pursuing a more thorough evaluation to investigate the nature of these concerns. Linda Loscalzo

Linda Loscalzo recently moved to Sarasota from Long Island, New York. Linda brings over 13 years of teaching experience in special education. During her time teaching in New York, Linda worked with children with various exceptionalities. Her background in the classroom provides her with a wealth of knowledge on differentiating instruction to help each student overcome struggles and thrive. Linda holds a Master’s Degree in Special Education and teaching certifications in both New York and Florida. In her free time, Linda enjoys playing pickleball and checking out new parts of Florida with her husband.

Nicole Anselmo

Tutor, B.A. Psychology, AMS Montessori certif ied

Nicole is originally from Rhode Island and holds a B.A in Psychology. Following graduation, Nicole moved to Switzerland to work as an Au-Pair for a Swiss/Danish family and then worked at an international school specializing in ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders). After returning to the US, she began teaching at a Montessori school outside of Chapel Hill, NC where she stayed for several years. In 2019 she and her family moved to Sarasota where she obtained her Florida professional teaching license and taught at a Montessori charter school in Venice. Nicole is excited to be a tutor at The Reading Station and hopes to positively impact the lives of young learners.
